A jury trial set for this month in a Lynchburg murder case was continued after a judge granted a motion to appoint a new attorney for defendant. Flanked by several other area sheriffs, a representative of the federal Department of Homeland Security and King Police Chief Jordan Boyette, Sheriff Lemons said the anti-drug operation was the result of undercover purchases of illegal narcotics, search warrants conducted at residences where illegal drugs are being sold and consumed, and traffic stops leading to drug seizures throughout Stokes County. Campbell County is moving forward with plans to support major renovation of Brookville High School, approving a project budget that came in $10 million higher than initially estimated back in June. The Drug Enforcement Administration, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Lynchburg Police Department, the Virginia State Polices Central Virginia Drug and Gang Task Force, and the Office of the Commonwealths Attorney for the City of Lynchburg investigated the case. When they pulled Chaney over, they found one pound of meth, 4.6 grams of heroin, and $2,000 in cash. Bond: $30,000. Anyone with information should contact police.
